Security Guard Weapons Course - Queensland
This program has been specifically designed to meet the licensing requirements for a Security (Guard) Weapons Licence in Queensland. Our armed security guard course are led by Michael Roberts (depicted in photo) serving over 30 years as a senior trainer in weapons and defensive tactics with the Australian Armed forces serving in Indonesia, Afghanistan and Iraq.
The course has been specifically designed to meet the licensing requirements for a Security (Guard) Weapons License in Queensland.
This course is for those who wish to gain a Queensland Security Guard Employee Weapons Licence and work in the security industry as an armed guard. This course covers the outcomes required to determine when to use a firearm to respond to a life-threatening situation. It requires the ability to analyse risk factors and intentions of persons and to maintain and store firearms and ammunition in accordance with legislative requirements.

Note: Those who hold a Queensland Security Guard Employee Licence are required to complete recertification annually to maintain their licence.

On successful completion participants will be issued with a statement of attainment with the following units:
  • CPPSEC3101 Manage conflict and security risks using negotiation
  • CPPSEC3102 Maintain operational safety and security of the work environment
  • CPPSEC3103 Determine and implement response to security risk situation
  • CPPSEC3114 Control security risk situations using firearms
  • CPPSEC3115 Carry, operate and maintain revolvers for security purposes
  • CPPSEC3116 Carry, operate and maintain semi-automatic pistols for security purposes
  • CPPSEC3117 Carry, operate and maintain shotguns for security purposes
  • CPPSEC3131 Select, use and maintain body armour for security purposes

Licensing Process
In order to qualify for a Security Licence (Guard) in Queensland, all applicants applying for this type of licence, must provide with their new licence application, a statement of attainment (issued in the last 12 months) from an RTO showing they have completed the appropriate units of the CPP31318 Certificate III in Security Operations.  Applications made for Security Guard Firearms Licences are handled by the Weapons Licencing Branch of the Queensland Police. This service incurs a fee to process, approve and issue licences which is not included in the cost of the course.

  • Meet the personal eligibility requirements
  • Have a genuine reason to hold a licence.
  • Have access to secure weapon storage.
  • Complete an approved weapons safety course covering the category of weapon you’re applying for and provide your statement of attainment. The course must have been completed within the 12 months before the date of submitting your application.
  • Provide the supporting documentation requested during the application process.
  • Provide a passport-quality digital image of your head and shoulders against a plain background. This image will be printed on your licence card if your application is approved.
  • Pay the required fees.
  • Attend a Queensland Police Station with 100 points of identification once your application is at the final stages of assessment. (Online Application)
On all of our firearms safety courses you will receive expert training from our industry professionals with decades of experience to give you the personalised attention you deserve including the safe handling of rifles, shotguns, handguns, lever actions and more.

This particular course consists of the completion of pre-course reading in addition to a 5 days face to face classroom delivery from experts in their field which include theory, practical handling and live fire components on an approved range.

The course deals with knowledge, attitude and behaviour needed to use a firearm safely, responsibly and legally. It includes the technology of firearms and ammunition, safe handling and safe use of firearms, legal and social responsibilities of shooters, and practical shooting.

Pre-requisites
In order to participate in this course, you must meet the following requirements:
  • Must be over 18 years of age (or have written consent from parent/guardian to attend)
  • Must not have any physical or other impairment which would prevent you from handling firearms safely – if unsure, seek advice from your GP or contact us to discuss suitability
  • Must not have any criminal convictions (relating to drug use, violence or weapons) in the past five years
  • Must not have been a subject to a domestic violence order in the past five years
  • Must not have been a subject to an involuntary mental health order in the past five years
It is also recommended that pregnant women do not attend our firearms safety courses due the probable exposure to lead on the firing range. Security Guard Safety Requalification Course
This refresher course has been specifically designed to meet the requirements of the Queensland Police Weapons Licensing focusing on specific skills and knowledge required to control security risk situations using a firearm.
Qualified weapons instructors from the security industry with over 40 years’ experience will provide face-to-face training in practical firearm safety techniques, along with theory (knowledge/skills) required to be a armed cash-in-transit guard in Queensland.
This refresher course has been specifically designed to meet the requirements of the Queensland Police Weapons Licensing focusing on specific skills and knowledge required to control security risk situations using a firearm.

Note: This course is an annual recertification for those that hold a Queensland Security Guard Employee Licence to maintain their firearms licence.

On successful completion participants will be issued with a statement of attainment with the following units:
  • CPPSEC3114 Control security risk situations using firearms
  • CPPSEC3115 Carry, operate and maintain revolvers for security purposes
  • CPPSEC3116 Carry, operate and maintain semi-automatic pistols for security purposes
